Jun. 06, 1970 - Introducing London's first two mounted policewoman: London's first mounted policewoman, P.C. Margaret Goodacre, 25, and P.C. Ann MacPherson, 21, of the Metropolitan Police were introduced in London today. Ann and Margaret were the two police officers, who after being tried out for their riding ability were finally chosen from a selection of 12 to go on a six month course which they have now successfully completed. Ann has already spent two years in the force, stationed at Lewisham, South London, and Margaret has been 18 months in the force at Commercial Street, East London, prior to which she was in the Wraf. The two mounted policewoman will be employed on the same general street-patrolling duites as their male counterparts, and it is anticipated that they will do periodic duty patrolling commons and open spaces, where their ability to deal with women and children in distress could be particularly useful.
