Mar. 03, 1973 - Maplin Model will help with Reclamation Work: There was a Press visit today today to see the model - one of the Largest of the proposed reclamation work for the third London Airport at Maplin. Built by the Hydraulics Research Station at their headquarters at Wallingfol in Berkshire, the model simulates an area bounded by Felixstown the thames Estuary from Woolwich Reach- the proposed site of the Thames Flood Barrier - to Margate and the Essex Coast and extends more than 30 miles offshore. It is housed in a new steel-framed building measuring 103meters by 70metres and will be used to predict the effect of reclamation on tidal levels and changes in the Hydraulic characteristics of estuaries and channels close to Maplin.
