1971 - Britain to have Census this month: The 1971 Census will take place on Sunday, April 25th, and will be the biggest and mist extensive survey of the British people in history. Everybody and every household in the land will be involved. The Registrar General, Mr. Michael Reed, today held a press conference at Somerset House to explain the Census, and answer questions. Representative members of the public were also invited to attend, and if they wished, to challenge the Census. School children were also present and were shown the spot in the 8 1/2 miles of vaults beneath Somerset House where their Census Day dairies will be stored, for 100 years.
