Sep. 18, 1973 - Mopeds for traffic wardens.: Traffic Wardens in North London are to ride mopeds to give them greater mobility in their enforcement and enquiry duties. For a three-month experimental period, beginning today, 14 specially-trained volunteer wardens will be using either Puch Maxi or Mobylette Major machines in the course of their work. If the current project is successful it is anticipated that the fleet will be expanded rapidly. Initially eight machines will be in use - four Puch Maxi mopeds and four Mobylette Major mopeds - under the control of the two police traffic Division Areas at Leyton and Finchiey and will be divided between four Traffic Warden Centres. Depending on previous experience the volunteer wardens have undergone training courses of varying length at the Metropolitan Police Driving School. Henon, all will wear white safety helmets decorated with the familiar yellow band and the Traffic Warden badge. Women wardens will be provided with slacks which they may wear while carrying out these mobile duties.
