Aug. 08, 1971 - Internment Without Trial For IRA Suspects In Ulster. 6 Killed, 17 Soldiers Hurt In Riots. 300 IRA suspects were arrested in dawn swoops by the Army in Ulster yesterday, as the Stormont Government took powers to intern them without trial, in response to mounting terrorism which has brought the province near to all-out civil war. Six people were killed, including a woman, a soldier and a youth in Belfast. Seventeen soldiers were injured as violence swept Ulster yesterday in the wake of internment. The decision to introduce imprisonment without trial led to a day of non-stop rioting in Belfast, Newry and Londonderry.
