Jul. 03, 1974 - July 3rd 1974 Esther leads the campaign to end the treatment of private patients at Charing Cross Hospital The attack by union militants on the treatment of private patients at Charing Cross Hospital threatens to spread. It could lead to a sudden nationwide collapse of the system under which private patients are cared for at Health Service Hospitals. The B.U.P.A. which runs insurance schemes for private patients is investigating alternative plans for managing without the 5, 070 private Health Service beds. The British United Provident Association (BUPA) are advising private patients to try to find beds in private hospitals, instead of taking private beds run by Health Service.
