Nov. 11, 1973 - Provisional Ira Leaders Snatched From Prison By Helicopter: In a daring operation yesterday, a masked gunman forced a helicopter pilot to land in the exercise yard at Mountjoy prison, Dublin, and snatch three Provisional Ira leaders to freedom. The three escapers were Seamus Twomey, member of the Provisionals Army Council, and chief of the Provos in Belfast; Kevin Mallon, leader of the Ira's border campaign and a specialist in ambushing and booby traps; and Joe ('J.B!) O'Hagen, veteran Ira man and chief quartermaster responsible for buying weapons and explosives form abroad.
