1973 - Field Marshal Manekshaw, Indian Army: Field Marshal S.H.F.J Manekshaw, Mc Indian Army, who i on a visit to the United Kingdom this morning went to the Ministry of Defense, London where he was greeted by Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Michael Carver, and a Guard of Honor found by 1st. Battalion the Irish Guards, with the Band of the Cold stream Guards in attendance. Field Marshal Manekshaw held the appointment of Chief of the Army Staff India from June 8, 1969 to Jan 15, 1973. He is the first Indian Officer to hold the rank of Field Marshal.
