Apr. 16, 1973 - April 16th 1973 Field Marshal Manekshaw, Indian Army Field Marshal S.H.F.J. Manekshaw, MC. Indian Army, who is on a visit ot the United Kingdom, this morning went to the Ministry of Defence, London where he was greeted by Chief of General Staff, General Sir Michael Carver, and a Guard of Honour found by 1st Battalion The Irish Guards, with the Band of Coldstream Guards in attendance. Field Marshal Manekshaw held the appointment of Chief of the Army staff India from June 8, 1969 to Jan 15, 1973. He is the first Indian officer to hold the rank of Field Marshal.
