1972 - Troops storm jail to free hostages; Soldiers burst into a room in Armagh jail yesterday and overpowered 10 prisoners who had threatened to kill a policeman and two prison officers whom they were holding hostage. The prisoners, who were all on remand, had demanded to be freed and g iven safe pasage to the Eire border, eight and given safe passage tothe Eire border eight miles away. CS gas was fired through windows into the room before the troops entered.
