Aug. 08, 1976 - Trafalgar Square's famous fountains are turned off as part of emergency measures to save London's water; Londoners are still not doing enough to save water, despite the ban on the use of hosepipes and appeals to the public London is using 440 million gallons a day, this has led to the Thames water authority to cut water pressure in London by 25 percent to help conserve dwindling supplies caused by drought.
