Nov. 11, 1974 - Army's Kerb-Side Surgeon Among Men Of The Year: Staff Sergent Bill Watt (37) of the Royal Army Medical Corps, and the soldier whose life he saved after a bomb explosion in Northern Ireland last year met Mr. Roy Mason, Secretary of state for Defence in Whiteball today. The staff Sergent, an Aberdonian, is on leave with his family from Barr and will be at the Savoy Hotel on Wednesday to receive a certificate from TV's Richard Baker, on behalf of the British Council for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, Organisers of annual Men of the year luncheon. He was named as the Army's Man of the year for an outstanding of Ian Jackson, a kerb-side operation which saved the life of Ian Jackson, 21-year-old private in the 1st. Light Infantry, of Liskeard, Cornwall, who was severely wounded in the throat by a terrorist bomb explosion at Crossmaglen. Staff Sergeant Watt has already won the Bem for is prompt and meritorious action and he went to Whitehall today to receive the personal congratulations of the defense secretary.
