Nov. 11, 1975 - Ireland's Premier Peer Attends State Opening Of Parliament For First Time: The Duke and Duchess of Leinster, Ireland's Premier peer and peeress, make their first-ever appearance at today's staopening of Parliament. Although His Grace, the 7th Duke, succeeded to his dukedom 53, years ago, and is now Britain's longest serving duke, he only took his seat in the House of Lords on July 15 of this year. On Thursday Nov 20th the Duke at 83, and the Duchess his fourth wife, who is 55, will sail for New York on the Q E 2 for a month's whistle - storin 21 days, ending in Hollywood for Christmas. The tour is to raise money for the All Ireland Distress fund. which they have launched to help victims who have suffered less or injury of hardship through the present troubles in Ireland.
