Feb. 02, 1978 - FEDERAL MINISTER OF DEFENSE GEORG LEBER OFFERED HIS RETIREMENT Yesterday, February 1st, 1978, GEORG LEBER (picture), Federal Minister of Defense, offered his retirement to Chancellor Schmidt. This happened in connection with the co-called wire-tapping-affair'. Some weeks ago the public was informed, that the telephone of the former secretary of Minister Leber was tapped by the MAD (Military Counter-intelligence). Only Last week, Georg Leber protested to the Cabinet, that this has been the unique case of this kind. But now, after more information. and a detailed study of the affair, he is not sure this use correct, - and by this he wants to retire. Chancellor Schmidt asked the Minister to reconsider his decision
