Aug. 08, 1977 - Departure of The Chief of the Defence Staff. On relinquishing the appointment of Chief of the Defence Staff Admiral of the Fleet Sir Edward Ashmore was mark by a ceremony with a guard of Honour from the three Services supported by a band of the Royal Marines, which were drawn up outside the House Guards Avenue entrance of the main Ministry of Defence building.
