Aug. 16, 1975 - Weekend Walkabout Experiment For Leicester Square Leicester Square, a focal point for West End activities, today became London's first major square to be party pedestrianised under a Greater London Council experimental weekend traffic ban, which started today. The north and south sides of the square are closed to traffic - except for emergency vehicles - from 6 am Saturday until 6 am Monday.
