May 05, 1980 - Porton Battlerun : The Defence Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Centre at Winterbourne Gunner, near Salisbury, has developed a defensive chemical warfare training facility in association with the Chemical Defence Establishment, Porton, and is known as the Porton Battlerun'. It provides for sub unite to undertake an exercise lasting 36 hours during which a number of simulated chemical warfare attacks are made without warning, and this is the first major chemical war exercise organised by a Nato power.
