1981 - Ash Grove bus garage at Hackney opened: London's first completely new bus garage for 27 year Ash Grove Hackney was, officially opened today by Mr Ian Mcleod, Chairman of the London Transport passengers Committee, this new garage cost 3 1/2 million to build, and will house 170 buses serving 12 routes. Photo shows Dr David Quarmby, Managing Director of London Buses, who is a qualified driver, seen driving the first bus through the tape at the new Ash Grove buse garage today
