May 05, 1981 - Five soldiers killed in 1, 000 bomb blast in Newey; The provisional Ira killed five members of the First Battalion of the Royal Green Jacket when their Saracan armoured personal carrier was blown to places by a bomb planted on a road between Newry and Carlough just four miles from the home of H block hunger striker, the third, Raymond McCreesh, 25, who is near death after 59 days of his fast, Wreckage fro mthe 10 ton Saracan car was hurled over 300 yards as the bomb was detonated by the assasins hidden in a wooden hillside. this part of Horthers Ireland, South Armagh, is known as bandit country.
