May 05, 1945 - Putting Handcuffs On German U-Boat. Photo shows Members of the American boarding crew are attaching tow lines to the bow of the German Submarine U-505, after a Navy Carrier (Escort) Force captured the craft in a stirring action at sea on June 4 1944. A Task Force Group attacked, boarded and captured the undersea vessel. The Escort Carrier Force was commanded by Captain Daniel V. Gallery, Commander of the U.S.S. Guadalcanal, of Chicago, III. who personally searched the Sb for boobytraps after the Germans attempted to scuttle the craft. The Submarine was towed to an American Port
