Vagelis Tsakiridis, Greek artist, with banned literature
Jan. 11, 1968 - Greek painter and sculptor Vagelis Tsakiridis, living in Berlin, wants to make forbidden Greek verse popular in Germany, and in doing so he hopes to help his fellow persecuted compatriots. Tsakiridis, who has been residing in Berlin for the last eight years without a passport, has gathered and translated in German some of the very same literature that the military government persecutes as dangerous communist, and for which you can be thrown in jail or put under house arrest. Verses from Michalis Katsaros and Vassilis Ziogas fall under that umbrella, which have been considered missing since the Putsch. All the verses, which were supplied as loose sheets in a briefcase, are forbidden in Greece since April 21, 1967.
