Jul. 07, 1963 - Valerie Hobson at first public engagement since husband's resignation from government: Former film star Valerie Hobson - yesterday opened the Pirates Spring - a holiday home for mentally ill at St. Mary's Bay, Dymchurch, Kent. This was her first public engagement since the resignation of her husband War Minister John Profumo from the Government - owing to the Christine Keeler affair. Valerie received a great welcome from a crowd of more than 1, 000. She said that what she feared would be a great Ordeal turned out to be a great joy'.
