Vera Stravinsky and Robert Craft, funeral of Igor Stravinsky

1971 - Igor Stravinsky buried. The famous composer Igor Stravinsky, 88, was buried last Thursday in the cemetery on the island of San Michele, in the Venice lagoon. Stravinsky, who died in New York, was reported to have had a great affection for Venice. Before the burial there was a funeral service in the church of St John and St Paul in Venice itself. Robert Craft, the American conductor and a friend of Stravinsky for more than 20 years, led the orchestra of La Fenice opera house through the composer's Requiem, which he wrote in 1966. photo shows : Igor Stravinsky's widow Vera, aged 80, pictured with conductor Robert Craft, as they entered the gondola to follow the gondola bearing Stravinsky's body in the funeral procession, on the Grand Canal, Venice
