Feb. 28 Chiang Kai Shek's successor: Vice President and Prime Minister of the Chinese Republic. Chaing Cheng is groomed to succeed Chiang Kai Shek as President. Trained at a military academy, he rose through the Army to become minister of War from 1944-45 and period the Nationalists were fighting the Japanese and the communists. He retired to Formosa with the Nationalist forces and from 1949-50 was Governor of the island. He was Prime Minister for first time from 1950-54 and was elected Vice-President in 1954. He became Prime Minister for the second time in 1958. Chen Cheng has four songs who with him are Confucianists; but his wife and two daughters are Christians. He hopes to return to China without a third world war. He feels that the Communists shelling of Quemoy can only be stopped by answering blow for blow
