Feb. 26 Inaugural Exhibition of the new Vasarely Center 1015 Madison Ave. New York City, 19 May 78. Painting, Collages and serigraphs by Victor Vasarely, one of the worlds foremost artists, was born in Hungary, and has lived in Paris since 1930. The father of Optical Art is represented worldwide in major museums and collections. Among others, in New York: Museum of Modern Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Art Museum, Rockefeller Foundation, Jewish Museum, also Buffalo Museum, Pittsburg Museum of Art, Joseph Hirschorn Foundation, Dallas Museum, Philadelphia Museum. In addition to the many artistic and honorary awards such as the French Legion of Honour, and the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters from Cleveland State University, Vasarely, on May 17 1978 will receive a Certificate of Distinction from New York University. These honorary distinctions have been awarded not only for his art but also for his inspiration and involvement in aesthetic architechtonic and urban problems. His dedication to these universal concerns led him to establish a socio-cultural foundation in Aix-en-Provence for the study of the integration of plastic beauty at all levels of the urban environment. He speaks of democratising the art object and is very much dedicated to the problems of the cities. His ideal is to achieve universal accessibility of art Planetary Folklore'. The worldwide interest in his European foundation inspired him to sponsor this Center in New York City
