Vosper Thornycroft new fast patrol boat, Tenacity
Sep. 09, 1969 - Vosper Thornycroft's New Fast Patrol Boat Design: The prototype of the new Vosper Thornycroft 142 foot fast patrol boat design, to which the name Tenacity has been given, is now complete in all major respects and has been on trials for some weeks. In the course of these trials she has already achieved a speed of 39 knots, with power in reserve. In accordance with the Group's established practice she has been built as a private venture to provide a vessel to prove the design and make possible demonstrations to possible customer navies. Tenacity is structurally complete and has her final machinery installation but since she is a prototype, certain spaces have been left unfinished, some being used for trials instrumentation. One of the possible weapon system outfits has been represented in mock-up form. This is the Contraves Sea Hunter fire control system, and the main armament of Sea Killer surface-to-surface missiles and the twin 35mm Oerliken gun mounting. Other alternative weapons can also be carried.
