Walter Mehring, German writer
1976 - WALTER MEHRING WILL BECOME EIGHTY. WALTER MEHRING (picture), the German author, will celebrate his 80th birthday on April 29th 1976. Born in Berlin, he studied history of art and published his first poems in the expressionistic magazine Der Sturm (The Storm) in 1919, shortly before being called up. After World War I he joined the Dadaism: 1919 he was invited by Max Reinhardt to join the cabaret Schall und Rauch'. 1933 Walter Mehring, who had warned against National Socialism as a staff member of the magazine Weltbuhne, had to emigrate, first to Austria, later to France and America. Some of his works are: The merchant of Berlin, The lost library'. Muller, chronicle of a German clan, New heretic-breviary and Small scoundrel breviary'. Walter Mehring is a member of the PEN centre as well as of the German Academy for Language and Poetry. He lives in Switzerland
