Watching open air draughts in Crieff, Scotland

The open air chequers of Crieff. Chequers - or draughts - is not usually regarded as an open air game, but in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland, the game is played out in the open in the centre of James's Square. A permanent chequer board has been built into the concrete in the centre of the square and the draughts themselves are made of stone, each one crowned with an iron loop. The pieces are moved by lifting them with a long hooked pole which is inserted in the ring. Anyone can play, it is quite free, but with true Scottish decorum, no play is allowed after 10pm or at any time on Sunday
