1978 - BLB to save the Waverley from the scrapyard. In a bid to save the 31-year-old paddle steamer Waverley from the scrapyard, it is on a visit to London after a journey from Scotland, for a week's voyages from the Tower, which if successful will ensure the steamer's future. This morning the Waverley left Tower Pier for Southend and Clacton. Photo shows the Waverley leaving Tower Pier this morning
