Feb. 26 Missile meter becomes Earthquake Warner: Scientists in California are now using a small missile, 1-inch diameter guidance control meter to detect earthquake movement. Called a Tiltmeter, the sensitive device works on the simple principle of a spirit level. The Tiltmeter will detect earth movement many hours before an earthquake or volcanic eruption occurs and such a warning system is considered invaluable to public safety.
