Welsh coracles on the River Thames, London
Jan. 01, 1967 - Coracles on The River Thames: For the Holiday in Wales exhibition currently running at Waterloo station, TWW (the ITV Company) have brought three coracle makers up from Carmarthenshire. They are two brothers Glyn and Gareth Elias and their cousin Raymond Rees. This morning, Glyn Elias and Raymond Rees each launched a coracle on the Thames, off Festival Hall Pier, and rowed their unusual craft on the river, and cast their nets. This primitive type of river boat, the origin of which stretches back into antiquity, is still used for fishing in some of the rivers of Carmarthenshire. The Elias brothers and their cousin will stay at the exhibition during the week giving demonstrations of their craft of coracle building.
