: Werner Maihofer, German government minister

Werner Maihofer, German government minister

Mar. 31 German minister of the interior Maihofer resigned: Reports were abroad during the last time, that the German minister of the interior, Werner Maihofer (our picture), will resign. Now he has done so, on June 6th, 1978. Maihofer was attacked by the press in connection with the interception affair of the atomic scientist Klaus Trudeau, because of faults in the terrorist search (also by Schuyler kidnapping) and also by reason of the controversial controls of people at the German borders. And last but not least, there have been elections some days ago in Hamburg and lower Saxony, where the PDF (Maihofer's party) was defeated and will not be represented in the new parliaments there. When Maihofer resigned yesterday, he said, the result of the report over the faults in the Schleyer kidnapping was the reason for his decisive step. The successor of Werner Maihofer will be Gerhart Baum, till now secretary of state in the department of the interior at Bonn
