Wilhelm Furtwangler, German conductor and composer
May 08, 1960 - Wilhelm Furtwangler: The conductor and composer Wilhelm Furtwangler would have been 90 years old on January 25th, 1976. He was born in Berlin in 1886, son of the well-known archaeologist Adolf Furtwangler. From 1922 to 1928 he conducted the Gewandhaus orchestra in Leipzig, after that the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras. Besides that, he conducted many well-known orchestras as a guest conductor. Wilhelm Furtwangler, an outstanding interpreter of the music of the 19th century, composed orchestral and chamber music. He died November 30th, 1954 in Baden-Baden (West-Germany)
