Feb. 02, 1975 - The Tory Party Chairman William Whitelaw To Enter The Battle For the Leadership Of The Party: Within hours of being defeated by Mrs. Thatcher in the first ballot for the conservative Party leadership, Edward announced his withdrawal from the contest and stood down as leader. Following this Mr. William Whitelaw, the Party chairman has declared his intention to enter the contest in the next ballot on Tuesday next.
