Oct. 10, 1977 - Willy Brandt in Munich: In connection with the election of the new Lord Mayor of Munich, on October 26th 1977 Willy Brandt, chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) visited the Bavarian capital. Mindful of the terrorist attacks and in fear of subsequent assassinations, Willy Brandt could only speak behind bulletproof glass. From the tower of the town hall he spoke to ten thousand inhabitants of Munich and opened the election campaign. Photo shows police cordoned off the town hall square, to ensure Willy Brandt's safety
