Feb. 29 Former Chancellor Willy Brandt As A Witness At The Trial Of Alleged Spy Gunter Guillaume In Dusseldorf: Willy Brandt, head of the Social Democratic Party and former Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, appeared as a witness at the trial of his former personal referee Gunter Guillaume on September 24th, 1975 in Dusseldorf. He gave his evidence, but there was no sensation like hoped by several people. Gunter Guillaume, whose wife Christel is also on trial, was arrested on April 24th, 1974 on charge of espionage for the German Democratic Republic. It was because of this affair that chancellor Willy Brandt retired on May 6th, 1974. The trial has been going on since June 24th, 1975.
