Winifred Atwell, lion cub, and Frankie Howerd
Feb. 02, 1954 - Lion Club Christened at Variety Club Luncheon: A Lion cub, from Jack Hylton's circus was christened Winnie by Winifred Atwell, at the Savoy Hotel Variety Club Luncheon today, to mark the pianist's recent performance in the lions cage at the Hylton Circus in aid of the Variety Club. Frankie Howerd also helped-in-the- christening, and Miss Atwell was presented with an inscribed silver lion as a permanent memento. Chief Barker of Variety Club, James Carreras and holiday camp king Billy Butlin presided at the luncheon.
