Winston Churchill Boer War envelope sold at auction
Nov. 11, 1968 - Churchill envelope sold for 3000.: The envelope of a letter sent by Sir Winston Churchill while he was a prisoner of war in Pretoria during the Boer War, was sold for300 in the Stanley Gibbons's auction rooms, in London today. The envelope, which has five postmarks, including that of the camp censor, is dated December 2, 1899, and was addressed to a Major Ronald Kincaird-Smith, who was serving in India at the time. Photo shows 16-year old Linda Fowler, a member of the Stanley Gibbons staff - seen giving the famous Churchill V sign whilst holding the envelope, during the auction today
