Winston Churchill on horseback at Chartwell, Kent
Feb. 26 Sir Winston Riding into his nineties goes for a canter on Salve Sir Winston Churchill celebrates his 90th birthday on Monday 30th November 1964. Back in 1948 Dutch Circus owner Mr. Jan Van Leer was reading a book by Mr. Churchill when he came across a passage which delighted his equestrian sole It is better to give one son a horse than money wrote Mr. Churchill. Mr. Jan Van Leer (now dead) write to Mr. Churchill telling him of his horses to waltz polka etc. asking if he might bring them over to perform before him. Mr. Church replied that he would be delighted to see them. The horses were taken to Chartwell and when he saw them Mr. Churchill although he had not ridden for ten years could not resist mounting Salve on which he centered around the grounds for ten minutes.
