Wolfgang Wagner, grandson of composer Richard Wagner
Aug. 08, 1979 - When the festival season 1979 of Bayreuth, West Germany is ended.: A new great festival for Wolfgang Wagner is appearing: His 60th birthday. The grandson of the composer Richard Wagner becomes on August 30th 60 years old! Born 1919 in Bayreuth (father: Siegfried, mother: Winifred Wagner), Wolfgang Wagner came after school and college 1938 to his Military service, in the second world war he was injured during the Poland campaign (the injury to his wrist made it impossible for him to play a musical instrument). After leaving the army in the year 1940 his artistic career began. He became stage manager at the festival of Bayreuth, after this he went as an assistant to the Prussian State Opera in Berlin, at the same time he started a private music study. In the year 1944 he made his first production Andresnatch by father Siegfried. In the same year the theatre was closed; - 1949 Wolfgang Wagner take together with his leadership on the Green Hill, where in the year 1953 the festival started once again with a new staging of Lohengrin'. Since that time more than 250 performances have taken place under his artistic leadership
