Women dance cancan during case at Lewes Assizes
Jul. 07, 1957 - Girls dance Can-Can for the Judge. Two girls, Sheila Joyce (21) of Kingston, Surrey, and Janet Reynolds (18) of Brentwood, Essex, yesterday did a four minute cancan dance before Mr. Justice Stable at the Lewes Assizes. They are members of the Latin Quarters West End Cabaret Chorus - and the display was arranged by their boss - Mr Albert Smith (Al Heath) who is being sued by a former dancer - Miss Beverley Ann Wood (20) of Margate - who alleges that the stage collapsed while she was dancing the cancan at a show staged by Mr. Smith she says she cannot dance again because of her injuries. The demonstration was arranged by the defence to demonstrative the movements made by Miss Wood when she was dancing.
