Women dance cancan during case at Lewes Assizes
Jul. 26, 1957 - Girls dance cancan for the judge: Sheila Joyce (21) of Kingston, Surrey and Janet Reynolds (18) of Brentwood, Essex yesterday did a four minute cancan dance before Mr. Justice Stable at the Lewes Assizes. They are members of the Latin Quarter West End Cabaret Chorus and their display was arranged by their boss, Mr Albert Smith (Al Heath) who is being sued by a former dancer, Miss Beverley Ann Wood (20) of Margate who alleges that the stage collapsed while she was dancing the cancan at a show staged by Mr.Smith - she says she cannot dance again because of her injuries. The demonstration was arranged by the defence to demonstrate the movements made by Miss Wood when she was dancing.
