Work of art made of colourful pebbles and shells
Mar. 27 New Art From The Sea: Strolling along the sea shore one day, artist James Waud found a new form of art. The discovery of the beauty of the pebbles and shells when completed in a beach mosaic ended a lifelong search for an original art form that he could call his own. Since then, he has completed more than 100 designs by moulding the colourful shells into different displays. To make each picture, hundreds of different stones are carefully cemented into place on a plaster base then coated with matt varnish. I collect coloured stones from all over Britain to make my pictures, Scotland, Pembrokeshire and Yorkshire are particularly rich hunting grounds for me, as they have many pebbles of various colours, which you can't get around my home at Westcliff.
