Oct. 10, 1957 - Totem (made of natural coloured wood, height 4 feet) Le Corbusier Exhibition in Munich: The Le Corbusier exhibition opens on October 4, 1957 in the Haus der Kunst (House of Art). This exhibition took place for the first time during the Interbau in Berlin. Le Corbusier, whose real name is Charles Eduard Jeanmeret, was born on October 6, 1887 in La Chaux de Fonds. Because of his outstanding talent in art he was admitted into the Art-Academy of his native town when he was but 14 years old and received his first commission to build a mansion when he was 18. Today Le Corbusier is the world's most famous architect and town builder. Of his most known works are the most outstanding: the town of Chandigarh (capital of the Punjab in India), the UNO building, the pilgrimage chapel of Ronchamp and the apartment houses of Marseilles and Nantes. It is less known that Le Corbusier is also painter and sculptor. The exhibition in Munich shows the visitors an all round impression of the creative powers of this artist
