Sep. 09, 1962 - Work with the oxygen lance; A film is at present being turned at Saarbrucken about the level of education and the work of the Civil Air Defence. This opportunity was taken to show for the first time an oxygen lance. An iron pipe is heated to redness on the top. The oxygen put through it heats the top which is pressed against concrete, up to 2000 degrees C. The concrete melts and is pressed out of the hole by the superfluous oxygen with 15 athmospheric over pressure. Drilling speed; 0.25 meters per minute. Because of the high temperature the men had to work behind an iron shield during the performance, and they were also wearing suits made of asbestos
