Workers demonstrate for free elections, East Berlin

Jun. 16, 1953 - Folk revolt in East Berlin.: Today in the late afternoon East Berlin workers and employees stopped work and demonstrated right before the House of the Soviet zonal Government at Leipziger Strasse. They asked their comrades for a general strike if the government would not consent for free elections all over Germany. The Soviet zonal Minister Selbmann was knocked down by an eastern worker, when he tried to calm down the demonstrators
