World's biggest tanker in Hamburg shipyard
Jun. 05, 1954 - World's Biggest And Newest Tanker Ready For Launching. To Sail On South Arabian Route: Work is almost completed on what has been described as the world's biggest tanker - soon to be launched from the Hamburg Howaldts shipyard for the famous Tanker King - Sokrates Onassis. The tanker is being named Al-Malik Saud Al-Awal which means King Saud I'. She is of 47, 000 tons and is a sister ship to the Tina Onassis - and will sail under the Southern Arabian flag.
