World's first test tube baby, Louise Joy Brown, Oldham
Jul. 07, 1978 - The World's First Test Tube Baby: At 23.47 on July 1978 a unique baby was born in Britain-the result of a test tube fertilisation'. Louise Joy Brown, the 5 lb 12 oz daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brown of Bristol, was delivered safely by caesarian section by Patrick Steptoe Esq. Frcs Frcog, Honorary Consultant Gynaecologist at the Oldham General Hospital near Manchester. He was assisted by Dr. John Webster MB ChB MRCOG, by Dr. Finlay Campbell, Anaesthetist Theatre, Sister Astel and Sister Marshall. Dr. Hilson Consultant Paediatrician. Also present at the birth was Dr. Robert Edwards the Cambridge physiologist whose 20 years of research led to the successful fertilisation.
