Wrapped up lion, Yoko Ono art project, Trafalgar Square
Aug. 08, 1967 - A Trafalgar Square lion is star of a Wrap In': One of the lions in Trafalgar Square was covered in dust sheets to be the star of a wrap in'. They moved into the Square with ladders, dust sheets, film equipment and police permission. The hippies climbed the ladders and wrapped one of the lions in the sheets, then they unwrapped it. Cameras were turning the whole six hours that these operations went on, but the film will be cut into 20 minutes slow motion. The film's director was the avant-garde Japanese artist Yoko Ono, who brought along her four year old daughter Kyoko to watch the shooting. Yoko Ono, it will be recalled, was director of the film about 365 bottoms which had a little censor trouble recently. She said : Wrap ins will make the city look much nicer. They will make everyone happy. Her husband, Anthony Cox, who produced the film, said: It would be nice to wrap a London bus next. The wrapped up lion in Trafalgar Square yesterday
