Wreath at Cenotaph, Spanish Confederation of Labour

Sep. 09, 1959 - Wreath on the Cenotaph in Protest Against visit of Spanish Foreign Minister to London. View of the wreath which was lying at the foot of the Whitehall Cenotaph today. It was the silent protest of members of a Spanish Anti-Franco, Anti-Communist organisation against the visit to London of Spain's Foreign Minister Fernando Maria Castiella, who had a meeting at Winfield House with President Eisenhower and another meeting with PM Harold Macmillan. The organisation which placed the wreath is the Spanish Confederation of Labour, which has about 60 members in London. The organisation is outlawed in Spain. Eight years ago Senor Castiella was barred from Britain because of his Fascist past. He is the holder of the Iron Cross decoration awarded to him by Hitler
